FOLDED SPACE

A map is not space. A map is a model of space. It gives structure to our understanding of distance, proximity, direction, and relation.

This project takes that model and alters it through folding, cutting, and rearranging. The map becomes a tool for examining the very spatial relationships it was created to represent.

By changing the map, we change how we think about space.

Distant places become adjacent. Separate points occupy the same space. Directions fold back on themselves. Distances collapse. Boundaries converge.

The locations themselves are not the subject. What matters is what happens to space between them: near and far, inside and outside, here and there.
